Yakovlevs lauded for their efforts by Shell
By sanne on 18/06/2008 19:27

Iain Jack, general manager of Shell lubricants, surprised team leader Jez Hopkinson with a new addition to his fleet of aircraft - a miniature Yak50 model, made especially for the team.
He presented Jez with the model during Aero Expo, an exhibition held near London, dedicated to aviation.

"We are delighted to give this to Jez," Iain said. "The Yakovlevs and Shell have worked together for years, and we hope to continue to strengthen this relationship further."
The model was given in recognition of the many years Shell and the Yakovlevs have been working together as partners.

"I really appreciate this gesture from Shell, which cements our relationsh ...

Check out the team's new ride!
By sanne on 27/04/2008 19:51

The team has just been expanded, to include a new ground support vehicle. After much deliberation, a silver Ford Focus was selected to go with the aircraft, and the transit van already in use by the Yakovlevs.

After a quick re-vamp, the Ford Focus support vehicle now fits in perfectly, complete with sponsors' logos and the Yakovlevs colour scheme.

The van has come in very useful over the years to transport all the kit and tools the four aircraft need during the display season, while the compact Ford Focus has already proven to be invaluable for getting around town, and transferring pilots.

More additions are planned for the future, so keep an eye on the website to find out more!

It's not easy being green
By sanne on 13/03/2008 03:26

It's that time of year; the Easter bunny is hopping up again, lambs are frolicking in the fields, and the Yaks' nine-cylinder radial engines are roaring to life again to prepare for yet another display season. And it's going to be a big one.

Already the calendar is looking packed, full of great events. The team is also preparing to be the first team to offset all their carbon emissions - a tall order! Together with our new partner, insurance broker Emery Little, the Yakovlevs will be the first display act on the circuit to be completely carbon neutral. After the launch of the new Ondina EL smoke oil, which is food safe and better for the environment to boot, this new scheme will continue the tradition the team has established to be as green and environmentally friendly as ...

The future looks a lot greener for the Yakovlevs
By sanne on 27/01/2008 05:11

For most of us it's a struggle to drive our empty bottles to the local recycling facilities every so often -- try running a four-aircraft display team through more than 60 displays a year, without doing any damage to the environment. The Yakovlevs Display Team, the UK's premier aerobatic team, is launching a new scheme that will make them the first, and only carbon neutral display team on the scene, with the help of their new sponsor, Salisbury-based insurance broker Emery Little.

The Yakovlevs will offset all their carbon emmisions, with the help of Emery Little's GreenFly carbon offsetting program. For the team, this is another step in the process of making flying not just better for the environment, but also safer for the pilots and their audience. Lead pilot Jez Hopkinson has already developed a new kind of eco/envi ...
