The Rolls-Royce event held at Hucknall saw many different displays with all sorts of aircraft, from a humble Cessna 150 Aerobat, to the nostalgic glory of the Spitfire.
Naturally with such a line-up, the Yaks couldn't be left out. The team, however, nearly didn't make it to the event, held on June 23 near Nottingham, due to some persistent rain clouds.
Jez and Jon sat at Compton Abbas Airfield, all strapped in and ready to go, for well over half an hour while rain clattered against their canopies, before they could finally get airborne. Once in the sky, the team dodged storm clouds before finally landing safe and sound at his ...

The team has had a busy weekend as they fought their way up North of Manchester through heavy showers, thunder, lighting and poor visibility, to display at a very special event yesterday Saturday 16th June 2007.
After a great display, with much help from the Manchester International Airport and the Air Traffic Services, the team returned closer to home to perform at another wedding.
Althoug the weather had been bad throughout the entire day, the team was able to carry out their full display, to give the spectators and guests a day to remember. Let's hope the sun comes out a bit more for the rest of the season!

Visitors had to elbow their way through the crowds at the Aero Expo th is year - particularly around the ice cream stand. The show, held at Wycombe Air Park (Booker), saw an audience bigger than last year despite disappointing weather.
Two of the team's Yak 50s were on display at the Haywards Insurance, Shell, and Garmin stands, and attracted much interest. Pilots Jez and Jim were also in attendance, but got photographed decidedly less than the aircraft - or Sanne and Kirstyne, who were there to help promote the sponsors.
The Yakovlevs were at the Haywards stand to lend their support to the insurance company that now dominates the Yak market, thanks to their grea ...

The team will be gracing the Haywards Insurance, Garmin and Shell stands. This is a great opportunity to admire the team's Yak 50 aircraft, which will be on location for the entire expo.

Despite low clouds, pouring rain, hailstones, engine troubles and sore bottoms from the long flight, the Yakovlevs still managed to put on a great show at the Oostwold 2007 Airshow, in the very north of the Netherlands. Planning the trip proved challenging, as the team had to fly through the airspaces of three different countries – all in one day! The Yakovlevs even had to zoom over to the Lowlands early, as bad weather on the following day would have prevented them from showing up at all.
“We were all really impressed by how friendly and helpful everyone was in the Netherlands,” said Jez, team leader. “Everybody seemed to want to sti ...

Smokin' new product to hit the market
Jez Hopkinson, lead pilot of a four-ship aerobatic display team, likens flying with regular diesel oil for the smoke effects at air shows, to being stuck to the end of an exhaust pipe.
“I used to get sick all the time with the diesel fumes,” Jez, owner and co founder of the Yakovlevs Display said. “And with more than 60 displays flown every season, I was getting concerned for my pilots, as they are exposed to these fumes all the time. ”
Jez teamed up with Rob Midgley, the GA Technical Manager with Shell Aviation, to see if they c ...
